Hey wait, just a minute Mr Postman!

26/1/2015

We have welcomed nearly all of our new families to Nursery and it is so exciting to be part of this exciting learning journey with the children.  Supporting the children's personal, social and emotional development is key to ensuring they are well placed to learn. A lovely piece of work has begun across the Nursery with Key Workers and their children to further develop self-confidence, independence and communication with families. Children have been writing letters home, mark making, drawing and adding photographs to share their experiences. The next step was the adventurous walk to the Post Office to buy stamps and post their letters. the first of the letters has started to arrive home. One parent last week exclaimed "My son's letter has arrived, I really wanted to open it but I have put it back in the letterbox until he gets home from Nursery so he can see it and we can open it together!" Children have returned to Nursery proudly clasping their letters and so begins an understanding of the world and the many forms of communication!

Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed?

We have started to welcome our new families to Rachel Keeling Nursery this week. It is always such an exciting part of a child's journey to be part of.
There has been a continued interest in restaurants and children have been engaged in role play alongside peers and adults to develop their understanding of eating out. We are hoping to take a group out to China Town to celebrate Chinese New Year in February. Food has been an ongoing focus with Goldilocks and the Three Bears in the garden. Children have been retelling and acting out the story in their own words, interpreting the voices of the different characters and even merging different fairy tales (Sleeping Beauty stole some porridge!)  Children have been very keen to mark make and draw and write about their stories.
Some children this term have begun to show real promise in the development of their climbing: the tree and the fire fighter pole has already been a new achievement for some of our children during the past two weeks.

Once upon a time...

Happy New Year! It has been wonderful to welcome our families back after the Christmas break. Children have been excitedly regrouping with their friends and there has been some wonderful collaboration which has supported children's relationships across the Nursery:
Children have been using the beautiful castle which arrived at the end of last term. They have explored the resources, used non fiction and story books to develop their understanding and specific vocabulary. Some children have designed and built their own castle using blocks and have told stories about dragons, creating rich illustrations. There have even been some brave Knights and powerful Princesses spotted making swords and galloping around the garden.
Children have also worked with their friends exploring powder paints, mixing colours and creating patterns and different textures. The wonderful images below show just a few of them.
We are looking forward to welcoming some new families to Rachel Keeling next week to begin the next stage of their learning journeys.
