Last week children were supported to select the ripe apples and pears and worked together, following the recipes to create Upside Down Pear Cake and Apple Crumble. Banana Pancakes were also made. Children used a range of one handed tools to chop, peel, mash, sieve, slice and mix the ingredients. Some of the apples did not make the cut as they had caterpillars visiting them. Children were supported to set those aside and watch their decay over the course of the week - using magnifiers and close observation to note the changes.
The process over the week further developed children's understanding of how we can grow our own food and share and enjoy it as part of a social gathering.
