Starting nursery school is a big moment for you and your child. We want your child to have the best start in life and are here to answer any questions you may have, to help you find the right nursery place.
At Rachel Keeling Nursery School, children who qualify for a place may access a morning place 9am-12pm or an afternoon place 12.30-3.30pm.
We follow the admissions procedures outlined in the Local Authority’s “Starting Nursery in Tower Hamlets Booklet”
A paper copy is available from the Local Authority’s Pupil Admissions Team on 020 7364 5006
All three and four year olds are entitled to 15 hours of free early years education per week and this is available from the term after their third birthday.

How decisions are made

The local authority in accordance with the admission criteria below makes the decisions on applications for Tower Hamlets nursery schools:
- Children looked after by the local authority including adopted children who were previously looked after.
- Children for whom it is deemed there is strong educational, medical or social reason to attend the school applied to.
- Children living within the catchment area who have a sibling attending the school and who will continue to do so on the date of admission
- Children whose parent is a member of staff who has been employed at the school concerned for two or more years at the time of application and/ or children of a member of staff who has been recruited to fill a vacancy for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
- Children who live within the catchment area of the school and for whom the school applied for is their nearest community school within the catchment area.
- Other children from within the catchment area of the school.
- Children living outside of the catchment area of the school.

Thirty-Hour Places
Eligible parents may be entitled to an additional 15 hours nursery education a week.
You can check your eligibility at for the Government’s 30 hour place at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk
If eligible you can then let the school office know your 11-digit code.
Alternatively you can telephone the HMRC helpline on 0300 123 4097
Two-Year-Old Places
Children’s House Nursery School offers places to eligible two year olds.
Some parents of two year olds are eligible for 15 hours free nursery education for their two year old but must meet certain government (income based) criteria.
