Safeguarding Summary
We recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. While working in our school we expect you to take care of our pupils and follow our procedures. We have a robust recruitment procedure and key staff and Governors are trained in Safer Recruitment. All staff have Safeguarding training annually and have had training on the Prevent Strategy. If you are concerned for a child's health, welfare or safety in any way you must speak to the Designated Child Protection Officers Becky Dolamore or Maria Ioannou. Our Governor with responsibility for Safeguarding is Aminul Hoque. If you have further concerns please contact the Local Authority's Designated Officer: Melanie Benzie. The Prevent Strategy
As part of Rachel Keeling Nursery School's ongoing safeguarding and child protection duties we are fully behind the government's Prevent Strategy.
From 1 July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as the Prevent Duty for Schools.
At Rachel Keeling, we build pupils’ resilience to radicalisation by promoting fundamental British values and enabling our pupils to challenge extremist views. You can read about what we do to promote British values by finding out about our School Values.
The statutory guidance refers to the importance of Prevent awareness training to equip staff to identify children and families at risk of being drawn into terrorism and to challenge extremist ideas. The Home Office has developed a core training product for this purpose – Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent (WRAP). All our staff have received WRAP training sessions from Tower Hamlets on what Prevent is about and how to deal with any issues they may see inside or outside school. Senior Leaders have also completed the the full training on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE).
