Early Years Pupil Premium

executiv In April 2015, £50 million nationally was allocated to Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) for our 3-4 year olds. This means children will be funded at an additional rate of 53p an hour which equates to £342 per annum. Schools are required to use this money to 'close the gap' for children who may be at risk of delay or disadvantage. Families must meet an eligibility criteria including looked after children, adopted children, special guardianship children, children subject to a child arrangement order and those children in families where the joint income is below £16,190 per year will be able to claim the EYPP including those families in receipt of:
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance.
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
  • Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit.
  • Child Tax Credit.
  • Working Tax Credit.
Each term we review the children who are in receipt of the premium and ensure we are supporting their learning and offering them challenge with additional experiences. Below are details of the provisions, purpose, costing and outcomes for children and families.
The executive head and deputy head teacher review the provision termly and monitor progress, attainment and ensure continued challenge.
In previous cohorts of children we have found the effect of the expenditure provided for these children has been highly effective due to the nature of the way we allocate the money. Provisions are chosen based on individual need: sometimes children have similar needs but we look at provision on a child by child basis. Our EYPP children work alongside other children with their additional experiences and we are noted in the past two years that all children, irrespective of their EYPP status, have made rapid and sustained progress and most have exceeded expectation in all areas of the curriculum.

We use this money in a variety of ways to impact the learning of this group of children at school and beyond: Embedded Forest School provision,  Language Trips, Language Groups, Design Project, Cooking Project, Animation and Becky's Story Group as well as part funding some wonderful enrichment experiences such as Step Out Arts, Irokos Drummers and Zoo Lab.
Year on year, our leaver's data demonstrated children in receipt of EYPP funding make rapid and sustained progress.
Our leaver's data for July 2022 showed that children in receipt of EYPP made similar levels of progress as their non-EYPP counterparts.
  • On entry, 100% of EYPP children entered nursery below, and some, well below expected areas of development.
  • On exit, 100% of EYPP children were at expected or exceeding expected levels of development.
  • Most EYPP children left at expected levels of development (36-48 months secure) and some exceeding (48-60+ months emerging and within).
We currently have 13 EYPP children at Rachel Keeling Nursery School currently.
