Learning at Home with Your Child
These really are unprecedented times and many families and schools finding themselves in new and challenging situations. We are trying to greet this challenge with optimism and vigor at Rachel Keeling.

Remember: you are doing your best, we are doing our best, you are not home schooling. Home schooling is a choice, none of us have a choice in this. Try not to feel stressed or guilty about what you are able to do.
Schools are trying to find our way and what works best.

Here are a few ideas to make our learning time with families at home fun and exciting.
Try to make a routine and have screen-free time (no TV and tablets or phone) for part of day.

  • Read together every day.
  • Draw together every day.
  • Practical maths - setting the table, cooking together.
  • Make a small batch of playdough.
  • Building with Lego or bricks.
  • Build a den with a sheet over two chairs or under a table.
  • Tidying up together.
  • Physical exercise.
  • Music and singing together.
  • Imaginative/free play.
  • Breathe and try to minimise stress.
  • STAY HOME and STAY SAFE!
Keeping Active

Get children moving to calm and refocus their minds, get those wiggles out and learn important social-and-emotional lessons through movement.

Rachel Keeling Values
Our values permeate everything we do: children refer to them to support each other, often independently problem solving and managing their own behaviour; children know they will be listened to and their words valued; many children have learned to speak up for what they believe and feel trusted to; families have reported the effectiveness of the Rachel Keeling Values at home and that children have shared them with wider family members.
