The children have been supported to create their own wooden, printing blocks to create patterns on fabric. They started by selecting objects from around the nursery and using them to print onto paper using paint. Next children looked at the marks they had made and talked about them. Children were supported to make clay printing blocks: making deep grooves in them, allowing them to dry and glazing them. Children worked collaboratively and with patience (as the process took some time!)
When children came to use their clay printing blocks, they discovered the grooves were not deep enough to make a pattern. So the children and adult stopped what they were doing and thought about how they could solve the problem. The following day, they started afresh with wood and glued pieces onto the wood to create patterns. They varnished and tested and this time SUCCESS! It is a reminder that the process is as valuable as the end product. A massive thank you to all our families who have sent fruit in for the children during this hot weather.
Staff and children have creatively prepared it and we have had some wonderful fruit platters, frozen watermelon on lolly sticks, redcurrant cordial and banana bread. Children have been supported to wash, prepare, share and enjoy it. Hopefully the weather will last! Keep the fruit coming! |
