Children have been exploring old and defunct electrical appliances: taking them apart with screwdrivers and asking questions.
This week we have introduced the electrical circuits. Children shared their ideas about electricity - especially things they use at home that need electricity to work.
They used a battery and circuit boards to create a flow of electricity to make a light, buzzer and fan work.
Children developed an understanding that the energy travels from the battery, through the wires to the bulb/buzzer/fan and back to the battery again.
Children persevered and worked collaboratively, problem solving and discussing how to fix the elements onto the board.
They showed great excitement when the circuit was complete and electricity flowed!
Children were introduced to vocabulary such as wire, battery, circuit, flow, bulb, fan and buzzer.
Nusaybah said "It glowed!" when the bulb lit up!
Nayan said "I'm a big boy now!" when he completed the circuit.
Children also demonstrated an understanding of electrical items they use at home.
At home, everyday routines are great for building children's vocabulary. Keep using exciting words to extend and cement children's understanding and soon they will be comfortable in using the words too!
