Making playdough at nursery
While poking, rolling, and squishing playdough, children develop the small muscles in their fingers and hands. They also gain strength and improve dexterity in their hands and fingers, critical areas of physical development for writing, drawing, and other purposes. Not to forget the hours of fun and imaginative play that develops in exploring playdough.

Big Rachel Keeling Soup
Children were supported at first to look at, handle, smell and talk about the vegetables. They named most of them and were able to say whether they had tried them before. Children carried them to talk about the weight and some were weighed using scales.
Next, they were washed and prepared: with children peeling, chopping, grating and mixing them together. Children and staff worked so hard across the whole week to ensure everybody who was in school had the opportunity to take part in one of the stages of the process. After the various batches of soup were cooked, children had the opportunity to share it and try some. Children were also supported to make soda bread using flour and yoghurt to accompany their soup.
